1972 "340" Rallye Challenger

"The Kowalski Special" *

It was started as a project for a friend's wife.  He acquired the Challenger in 1996 with the intention of making a new car out of it for his wife.  In the four years since then, the gods smiled down on him and made it easy for him to just buy her the new car she wanted.

By then, the Challenger had been completely disassembled, painted top to bottom, and the chassis reassembled.  At this point he had lost interest.  This is where I come in.  He liked my '63 Dodge Polara 500, especially since it was a driver, and offered to trade me even-up.  After considerable thought, I went for it.  This was my golden opportunity.  Someone else got to do the dirty work and I just had to do the fun stuff.

The car is a '72 340 Rally Challenger clone.   It has P/S, PD/B, A/C, and RT hood and exhaust.  Everything is either new, reproduction, or at least freshened up.  Every part has been removed and replaced as necessary.  Installing the windows and mechanisms, and rebuilding the dash have been the most intimidating things so far.  It gives me a great feeling of accomplishment to see them done.  I'll feel even better when I find out whether everything works or not.  I still have a ways to go, but hope to have it running and driving by the end of April 2000.

Enough chatter.  Here are some pictures of the progress I've made so far.
