Mike's 1958 Plymouth Savoy

This sweet little car came with the original seats, door panels, and headliner.  It has a poly 318, with push button transmission, and when I purchased it, there was less than 48,000 miles on the odometer.  There is no power brakes or steering.  There was some surface rust, and a little cancer on the rear quarters, but I just couldn't let it go by.

After a quick white top paint job on the roof, a polish, new wide white walls, some re-chroming, and stainless polishing, the car really looked good.

I have taken it to quite a few car shows, and a lot of the older folks want to know if they can sit in it because they had one just like it for their first car...

At Jaspers Thursday Nite Cruise In, I won a trophy during their Mopar Night.

Best of Show in September 2000 at Jaspers monthly show

Me and the Plymouth, a couple of weeks before I started prepping it for a new paint job. During the 2001 Mopar Rendezvous in Placerville Bob took this picture of me and the car.  That was a fun show.

But alas, the car needed freshening up, so after this show, the parts started coming off.

And am I getting excited about this one!!!

Here is the stripped down Plymouth wearing a coat of primer at the body shop.  They have started welding in new metal to remove the cancer under the lower panels.  They have also removed the glass to insure there was no cancer under the rubber.  All is looking good.

October 11, 2002,
and the car finally gets to go home.

Here in the shop after a quick bath the car sits waiting to be rolled out for its ride home.

After being rolled out, the car shines in the sun.  The official color name is Bright Metallic Green (F6).  You can tell from the picture how straight the sides are.

The big fins sticking up, the shine on the highlighted parts, it really is a happy day.

Below, loading it onto Andy's truck for the journey home.   Look at the reflection of the other vehicles parked on the lot.

Now the fun begins.  In the first week I have spent more than 2 days under it cleaning, scrapping and sanding, and more than 6 cans of paint.  The engine compartment has been repainted again, and now it's time to put in the motor.  Any Volunteers?

between Oct 11, and Jan 4th all this got accomplished...

Working evening and weekends on the car, it is beginning to take shape.  I had the rubber replaced around all the windows, and all the chrome and stainless redone.  I put on new disk brakes, put the motor and tranny in, did all the wiring and electrical, and started putting all the exterior parts on it.  I also repainted the interior trim and got the interior put back together.  All this is just about complete, and still a month to to before the big show...

Autorama was Feb 6, 2003.  The work was completed at 8pm on Feb 5th...
